The Swirly Storybook Mermaid

I started by choosing a circular frame from Inline Ovals. The 831 series comes with a choice of decorations, which can be somewhat customized. I called Lorraine and asked if five of the seashell decorations would fit on a 14" circle. She was very helpful and measured for me. As it turned out, five fit perfectly all the way around, so I ordered the frame in silver leaf brown. I also ordered a piece of convex glass to further the fishbowl effect.

To design the mat, I went into the Wizard Mat Designer program and selected a couple of pieces of cut art with some good swirls to them. I arranged them loosely around the circle openings and then exported the file to VCADD to clean it up. Once I had a nice clean design, I cut the triple mat out of C9539 Riptide. I decided to go with a monochromatic mat because there was already plenty going on with the design and ornamentation.

Once the mat was cut, I turned the first and second mats so that they didn't align with one another to achieve a more free-flowing organic feeling.

I hung her up in the shop for awhile as an example of how fun extravagant design can be, but now my swirly storybook mermaid swims happily in my living room.
